Overview
Grading & Excavation in Charlotte, NC
Grading and excavation is where a cleared lot actually becomes buildable. Ground that looks flat rarely is, and even a couple inches of slope in the wrong direction sends water right at a foundation or under a driveway. Our job is to move the dirt around so that doesn't happen. We cut the high spots, fill the low spots, and pitch the finished surface so water runs where it's supposed to.
We handle building pads, driveway grading, drainage swales, foundation dig-outs, utility trenches, pond excavation, and pad prep for barns, shops, and outbuildings across Charlotte and the surrounding counties. On tight residential lots we run compact equipment; on bigger sites we bring in dozers and full-size excavators. Either way we shoot grade as we go, not once at the end and hope for the best.
If you've got engineered plans, we work off those. If you don't, we can work from a scope you and I hash out on the walk-through: where the pad sits, how the water needs to move, what elevation the driveway ties into. You'll know what we're doing before the first bucket comes off the trailer.

How We Work
Why Our Grading Holds Up
01
Water is the first thing we look at
Before a pad elevation gets set, we figure out where rain goes now and where it needs to go instead.
02
Grade is checked as we go
Elevations get shot during the work, not once at the end when fixing it means moving the dirt twice.
03
Equipment sized to the lot
Compact machines on tight residential lots, full-size iron on open sites. Neither one gets forced onto the wrong job.
04
Plans or no plans
We work off engineered drawings when you have them, or off a scope we agree on together when you don't.
How Estimates Work
What Affects The Price Of A Grading Job
No two properties price the same, which is why we walk yours before quoting anything. You leave that visit with a firm written number for the whole job, and nothing moves until you approve it.
This service is right for new construction lots, properties with drainage problems, sites needing a level building pad, or any project where the existing ground needs to be reshaped before building.
If your site only needs surface clearing without significant earthmoving, land clearing or forestry mulching may be a better starting point. We're happy to assess your situation and recommend the right sequence.
What We Look At On The Walk-Through
Dirt Volume
How much material has to be cut, filled, or brought in to reach the finished elevation.
Drainage Scope
Swales, culverts, and pipe work needed to get water moving in the right direction.
Site Access
Tight lots, soft ground, and long hauls all slow equipment down and add machine time.
Finished Condition
Rough grade for a builder is a different scope than finish grade ready for seed or slab.
Common Questions
Grading & Excavation Questions
Searching for grading & excavation near me in Charlotte, NC? Call Angelo and describe the property. If another approach fits your site better, he'll say so.
Ask Angelo: (704) 981-0795Do I need a site plan before you can grade?
Not always. For simple residential grading we can work from a basic scope. For larger or more complex projects, a site plan helps us grade to the right elevations.
Can you fix drainage problems on an existing property?
Yes. Regrading to correct drainage issues is one of the most common jobs we do. We assess where water is going and reshape the grade so it goes where it should.
Do you haul excess dirt away?
Yes. If your site generates more cut material than fill needed, we can arrange removal. That's factored into the quote upfront.
